Emergency Services Network (ESN)

The Emergency Services Network or ESN is a new critical communications system designed for the British police, fire and rescue, and ambulance services. Its strategic aim is to provide greatly improved voice and data services and replace the ageing Airwave system.

The new focus is on getting the products and services that emergency services customers want, in their hands when they want them. It means key elements of ESN can be tested, adopted, and begin to be used as they become available, rather than having to wait until every element of the network is finished. This will allow continuous improvement of the solution and learning of lessons along the way – to boost service, enable innovation and meet new needs of the emergency services.

How IoTAS can help

IoTAS have long standing strategic relationships with key suppliers, including both manufacturers and operators. Leveraging these relationships, as well as our status within the GCF and our rigorously applied and maintained ISO 17025:2017 testing quality, we feel we are in the very best position to offer device and UE manufacturers the guidance, consultation, support, and testing services required to help bring their equipment to market.

Live Network testing is essential when validating the operational performance of any ‘network ready’ handset or device. EE will be providing the ESN coverage, available along major and minor roads, within selected buildings, road tunnels and railway facilities, etc. A comprehensive testing programme can be delivered by IoTAS and, where deemed necessary, certified for conformity to agreed standards of interoperability.
